MAR de CRISTAL
Is a small, clean and tidy, family run marina that offers a real personal touch with every one on first name terms that has accessible hotels and apartments within walking (rolling) disance.
Situated in a quiet residential and beach holiday area on the south eastern shore of the Mar Menor, a 40 square kilometer lagoon with a few quite small exits to the sea so protect from really severe weather conditions. However the weather can change very quickly here so take advice from the staff. My short answer about the weather would be 'good almost all year, sunny most days'
Every thing is on the flat and accessible for kilometers in all directions.
A recent major upgrade of the whole marina, dredging, new pontoons, land scaping, cafe/restaurant, toilets and showers make the whole area pleasant for visitors and berth holders alike.
While much of Spain still suffers from unnecessary bureaucracy it is absent here without compromising safety.
Everyone working there is friendly and helpful, just try and moor your boat without someone arriving to see if you need assistance.
A number of the staff speak English. The majority of the people using the marina and the restaurant seem to be English or speak English but you are likely to meet people from almost any country in Europe.
The cafe/restaurant has a good menu that includes things you will recognise if you do not wish to be adventurous, but the Spanish offerings are very good and you should try a paella.
Easy parking (no charge) and a short distance to the beaches on both sides, a super market and a chemist.
Public transport is like the rest of Spain, good in the big towns, almost non existent in the village and Mar de Cristal is a village. Car rental is cheap but hand controls not available at present.
The is plenty of information about the area on the internet, Google any of these terms.... Mar de Cristal, Mar Menor, La Manga, Cartagena, La Union.
If you have a day out the well kept local secrets are the Black Beach at Portman and the bay at restaurant Mares Bravas
